Lessons

Like I mentioned before, there are many ways to play this game. Therefore, there are many ways to approach the Lessons. I do think it's rather up to each person what order one might want to do the lessons. Always do whatever works best for you.

Navigating Inside the "Lessons" Tab

You'll start at "First Year". At the beginning you only have access to a few lessons, but as you level up you'll unlock more and more lessons. Also remember that you can repeat any lesson as many times you want to, as long as you have enough energy. When you reach levels labeled in the tabs below, you'll also unlock new tiers of lessons.

Navigate between different tiers to find more lessons to be completed just by clicking on these tabs.

Lesson Requirements

If you see a yellow border around some of the required items in a lesson, it means you don't have enough items. You can just click on the box and wait for a little pop-up to open so you can purchase items on the spot or head to the "Magic Shop" to purchase required items.

The first number indicates the quantity you possess. The second number is the quantity required. When you don't see a yellow borders, it means that you have at least the quantity indicated in the little green box.

Mastery Levels

You can obtain three mastery levels for each Year of lessons. They are indicated by little medals and they are also labeled.

Level 1 Mastery. You have to complete all the lessons so that you can move on to the next level of mastery. You will receive a Bronze Item from the Headmaster when you complete Level 1 Mastery.

You will know you completed Level 1 Mastery when the progress bar from all the lessons resets back to 0 %, but they will have a little bronze medal under it, just like the picture.

For Level 2 Mastery, just repeat the process. When you finish Level 2 Mastery you will receive a Silver Item from the Headmaster.

The progress bar gets reset once again, this time for Level 3 Mastery. You'll also note a new silver medal at the under the progress bar.

Level 3 Mastery in Progress. When you complete Level 3 Mastery you will receive a Golden Item. The progress bar will NOT reset anymore and you'll have three medals. This is the currently the highest level of mastery possible.

Level 3 Mastery complete. You will no longer receive any mastery for repeating this lesson. But you can still repeat the lessons to acquire more gold, experience and magic.

In Which Order?

For those who are seeking a little more guidance, here are my two cents on the mater. Personally, I strive  to do Year 1, mastery levels 1-2-3, Year 2 - mastery levels 1-2-3, etc.. for a number of reasons:

3 Main Reasons:

1. You don't have to spend money to buy new equipment - so you can save money to buy next year's gear in bulk, thus save money on the inflation side (every time you buy 1 item, the price goes up).

2. You can save money to buy properties, they'll in turn generate income while you're not playing. (gold is really essential. Items keep getting pricier and pricier as you move up, mark my words).

3. You get a bronze, silver or golden item or creature whenever you master a level completely. They are handy for duels, that's all I'm saying.

Not main reasons, but something to think about:

4. As you level up, you unlock more and more lessons from the next tier, you can take a peek at them, see how much all the equipments are going to cost and plan ahead how much gold you'll need and save accordingly.

Another thing I like is to do the lessons backwards - starting from the last lesson of a given year to the first lesson (unless I need to pick up magics along the way).

Lessons towards the end of a year have the highest payout both in experience points and gold. This way you get a boost in your gold reserve and you also level up faster. As you work your way up the list you will also do the earlier lessons faster and faster because you've already accumulated more energy while doing more advanced lessons.

Also, when you don't have enough energy to do a higher level lesson and you know you'll be away from the computer for a good while, you usually want to use up all your energy. This way there's a chance you find yourself with enough energy to do one more lesson.

  1. I have levelled up from 15 to (just reached) 18 without any new lessons appearing. I keep getting the message that if I level up, more lessons will be revealed. I redo all the lessons available to me even though they are all listed as 100% complete just to keep gaining experience points and I have bought more items as I can from the magic store. (New possible items have appeared as I level up, so I figured they would be useful at some point.) I haven't fugured out how to send questions through another means, so I am hoping someone on the blog can answer. Thank you in advance for any info.

  2. I updated the post with what I believe is the answer to your question. If it isn't, please let me know.

  3. What does "Mastery" accomplish?

    ReplyDelete
  4. 2 hall passes plus: if it's a level 1 mastery - a bronze item/creature (depending which year). Level 2 mastery - a silver item/creature. Level 3 mastery - golden item/creature. If you look at the individual posts for each year on the blog archive, you'll find the image of the item or creature awarded for each year.

  5. How many mastery levels per lesson are there? It seems to max out at Level 3 and displays medals attached to represent each mastery level.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 3 Levels. It will not go higher than that. When you mastered all three levels you should be more than ready to move on to the next "Year".

  7. what happens if you have everything and you are on level 15 and everything is at 100% how do you get to 16 to unlock next set of lessons

    ReplyDelete
  8. It says I need 128 in experience I am at 95 how do I get to the 128

    ReplyDelete
  9. You can get the remaining experience you need by re-doing completed lessons or dueling. Once you level up and reach level 16, instead in "LOCKED", the tab changes to "Third Year" and the tab becomes clickable.

  11. i have nearly 3 million coins and 47 hall passes but my energy goes so fast i can only do a little bit then i have to wait for a few hours im getting bored how do i increase my energy so i can do more lessons at any 1 time

    ReplyDelete
  12. That's how these games are. You have to wait until your energy refills so you can play some more. I usually use up all my energy, next I use all my stamina, then I do some inventory management, send out gifts, go do something else and come back to the game in a couple of hours.

  13. What lesson needs to be done in order to obtain the ice broom? I have did all the first 7 3 times, and still do not have that yet, and so many have a large number of that. Can you tell me which lesson to take how ever many times I need to in order to get this?

    ReplyDelete
  14. You can't get a Ice Broom anymore. They were a limited weekly gift. Please see this post: http://schoolofwizardry.blogspot.com/2009/11/weekly-limited-edition-gift-list.html

  15. Hi, I only started this game yesterday, then found your blog today.. bril resource I must say.

Question: Is there any way to convert health/stamina points to energy points? I was increasing all 3 before I found your info and it's frustrating me waiting for energy all the time.
    Ta!

    ReplyDelete
  16. No, I'm sorry but it's not possible. Once you allocate your skill points they stay there forever. All you can do is put the majority of your skill points into energy from now on.

  17. I had two Hippogriffs and now one is gone. I know I had two because I was in the middle of completing a lesson requiring it. What happened to it?

  18. I cant duel. The bottom half of the screen will not show up..Please fix...thank you..

    ReplyDelete
  19. @ klwhitman - There's been a problem with the servers and we're not out of the woods yet according to the post the developer left on the application wall. I would personally postpone any purchase at this moment be it properties or items until the situation is completely solved. I would rather just save up the money, but I don't know if the bank is being affected too. I can't tell 'cause I'm really not keeping track of it. I'm just dueling, repeating old lessons and banking the gold.

@ lkickin - I'm not the developer. The problem you had was a bug that happened earlier. Hopefully you can duel now.

  20. Every time I refresh my profile or get out of and then back into the game everything is gone. The lessons I have completed show that I havent done any, my money goes to 1000, any items I have bought disappear, and any skill points I have assigned a location dont show up. Its like I'm starting over from scratch. Do you have to save your profile or something every time you leave the game or what is going on

  21. i hate this game..always role back,, my lvl was already 21 then role back to 14 ,,im wasting my time ,,of this damn game,,

  22. Too bad I already let me losing evrything and reverting back to level 7 go. This game sucks because it loses all what I've gained. What a POS! I click hard all for not.

  24. I'm at level 25, have completed 2nd & 3rd year lessons except for those that I cant purchase what I need. HOW DO I GET INCENDIO, it says revealing that the Defense Arts Teacher is a fraud. HOW DO I DO THAT??? PLZ HELP

    ReplyDelete
  25. @ Nick, skalper311, Toby - You don't "save" the game. There's been a problem with the servers and that is what's causing the rollbacks, and we're not out of the woods yet according to the post the developer left on the application wall. I would personally postpone any purchase at this moment be it properties or items until the situation is completely solved.

@ irishjenny - Read the post "Skill Points"

@ Mya - To find Incendio you have to keep repeating the lesson "Reveal that the Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher is a Fraud" until you find all the Incendios you need. You can repeat any lesson as many times as you want.

  26. I need Lumos to finish first year. Where do I find it?

    ReplyDelete
  27. how do u get energy level higher then 5.. as i am level 8 now, so i'm on the second year.. but i cant finish the last 2 lessons on the firdt year as my energy is still at 5

    ReplyDelete
  28. @ krissypooftw - You don't need Lumos to finish the first year, you need Expelliarmus. If you're really looking for Lumos just do the last lesson of the First Year, "Secure the Sorcerer's Stone and Battle off the Dark Lord" until you find it. If you are unable to do that lesson, it means you need Expelliarmus, which is on a couple of lessons before that one, "Defeat Troll Who Wandered Into the School".

    @ katherine_48 - Read the FAQ post, Question #6.

  29. Hi, I'm level 21, have gold, silver bronze year 1 and trying to master year to but cannot complete because I need 'Incendio' but when I redo the class which is at 100% I get nothing, it just says 100% done, so how am I supposed to get past this!! Very frustrating

  30. A hard to get magic is an obstacle you have to overcome. It's like a boss fight. Save up enough energy and you'll get the spell you want.

Also -- the thing about probability/chance is when it's says 20%, it doesn't mean that if you do a lesson 10 times you'll get 2 spells. That's not how probability works. The "events", in this case is when you do a lesson, are completely independent from each other. Like a flip of a coin, there's a 50 - 50 chance of getting either heads or tail. But it doesn't mean that if you flip it 10 times, you'll get 5 heads and 5 tails. As matter of fact I just flipped a penny 10 times and got 7 tails and 3 heads.

Now if you ever taken a statistics class, you know that if you flip a coin 100 times, you still won't get 50 heads, 50 tails. But as you increase the number of events to say... 5,000 or 10,000 you might start getting something closer to 50%-50%, emphasis on the might.

Yeah, all I'm trying to say, keep repeating the lesson until you find it, and no, you won't have to repeat it 5,000 times. (I think it took me less than 9,000 lessons to finish the whole game)

Do take a breather and do other lessons that also drop spells - helps with the morale and it tells you that the game is still working.

  31. Im just wondering what exactly does it mean when it says "Lesson Tiers mastered" is it how many lessons you've mastered up the the third level or what?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lesson tier mastered is when you master all the lessons in a year and you get a bronze, silver or a golden item for it. Note that the max number is 30. We have 10 years and 3 mastery levels on each year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. you can also buy exactly how many items you need by buying them in the individual lesson boxes. and it doesn't cost any extra! i didn't even bother with the magic store once i found that little gem. and if you master all the years to gold first, like he says, u can unlock entire years and see every item you'll need, which helps you to buy in bulk more efficiently! hope this helps you all!
    :) happy wizarding!

  34. If I've reached 100% in lesson, and I need to obtain magic by that specific lesson to pass next.... I'm trying and re-trying again and again and I've never got the magic... am I just unlucky? is there any other way?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have reached 100% level 1 mastery on my lessons i keep redoing and redoing them but i can't seem to go to level 2 is there a reason for that?

  36. I'M HAVING TROUBLE WHEN I PURCHASE ITEMS OR PORPERTY. IT TAKES MY MONEY BUT NEVER SHOWS THAT I HAVE BROUGHT THE ITEM OR PROPERTY. EVEN WHEN I TRY TO REFRESH THE PAGE OR REFRESH MY ACCOUNT. I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU WILL MAKE IT RIGHT AND EITHER GIVE ME THE MONEY BACK OR AT LEAST THE ITEMS AND PROPERTY THAT I BROUGHT. PLEASE MAKE THE CORRECT, I WOULD HATE TO GIVE UP PLAY THIS GAME AND WITH MY FRIENDS. THANK YOU PAMELA

  37. Can you still get a spell when you already passed the next lesson?
Because I've done the troll lesson so many times, and I can't get the expelliarmus spell.

  40. ok, I wanted to play this but before I started I wanted to understand the characters so I went to the help page and when I went to actually play the game it had already picked a character for me and given me a name that apparently I am stuck with unless I pay to change it.... what is that about??

    ReplyDelete
  41. You should have to type in the amount you're going to withdraw. I've clicked the wrong button my mistake at least twice since withdrawal is on the opposite side of zynga games and zynga doesn't automatically put in the withdrawal amount. Not many people withdraw their whole account anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  42. it is getting down right frustrating when I get on and use up my points right close to changing level and then when I get back on and the energy level is full I do one or two classes level up and lose more then a 100 points!!!!!!!!!!!! GOING BACK TO MY FULL LEVEL THAT SUCKS!! I should be able to keep the points that I had without having to go backwards!!!

  43. I would like to know why one person is required to buy 10 dragons at $12 million/ea., 10 mirrors, 10 tornado brooms for "closure" and another person is only required to buy 2 dragons, 7 brooms and 3 mirrors, for the same level?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have completed all mastery levels in the game. Now all that is left is Dueling and levelling up.. What to do now with lessons ?

  45. guys, my friend made a school of wizardry autoplayer and level/item calculator, so you can level up while your at school, work, etc. its got me up 10 levels in one day before. but we havnt widely tested it, and are looking for some people to tell us how they like it. and of you think the autoplayer is unfair, it has a timer to remind you every time your energy completely refills.

  46. I have reached the final level and completed all the tiers. Yet when looking at the board of the leaders there happens to be two more tiers and a few more lessons. I have gone through over and over again to see if I have missed any and I have not. Is there something I am missing?

  48. I'd like to see a list of all the items, spells, and creatures needed for each set of lessons. I might be able to bulk-purchase and I want to know how much I need of what (and when!)

    Anyone know?
